Once again I opted to do our annual family update on the blog instead of writing and printing out 100 copies to mail. In this post I take a look back at how 2011 went for our family ~ The kids seemed to really grow this year and take on bigger responsibilities, a real blessing for me. CT took over doing all the weed eating and wood stacking around the property and filled his free time with reptiles and chickens. He truly loves both and has added a few new reptiles to the collection in his room and has begun a poultry breeding project with some of his favorite breeds. He also got to spend 2 weeks in Eastern Wa with my brothers and dad and go deer hunting where he got his first deer.
KN had a growth spurt and passed up her older brother in height. I call them my twins because besides being the same size, they are always conspiring together and working on projects. She loves to read and if left alone would spend the whole day sitting on the couch with her favorite books. She's also very creative and took on sewing lessons with my mom, creating several items of clothing for herself and her doll.
MN starting losing teeth like crazy and the dentist fit her with permanent metal expanders in her mouth to widen it for the new adult teeth coming in. She still loves cleaning the house and will do it without being asked almost daily. She spends a lot of time playing with baby dolls and her kitchen set just pretending to be a mommy and she also learned to read much better this year although opposite from her sister, she still prefers hands on physical activities to books and artistic ones.
Little J makes us laugh every day. He thinks he should be doing things that a 10 year old is doing and is capable as well so it's good we have 3 older ones to help keep an eye on him. His biggest love is trucks and work equipment and I think his favorite day this year was getting to go spend a whole day at work with 'Daddy' driving the backhoe, tractor and big white truck and hanging out with the guys at work. He says he wants to work on cars and drive fire trucks when he grows up and has a slight obsession with monster trucks.
Winter for 2011 was rainy and cold and rainy some more and we kept our wood stove burning into May. We didn't get much gardening done this year since it was too cold to grow the things we like to grow.
Spring 2011 we took a road trip to California, took the kids to Disneyland ( one of my all time favorite places!) and to visit some friends and family that live down there. The kids especially liked staying in a hotel and swimming in the pool.
Spring still brought a lot of dark skies and colder weather and kept us looking forward to summer if it would ever get here!
In July we had a family reunion with my Mom's sisters and their families. Lots of fun to get together for two days and for all the kids to get to know each other better.
We finally started getting some vegetables in July, carrots, lettuce, spinach, radishes, bok choy and lots of raspberries and strawberries. Cucumbers came later and we never did get tomatoes.
We were able to go on several camping trips in August and September which is truly one of my favorite things to do - camping with the kids is so much fun for me and seeing God's creation and just being out in it makes me happy. We were fortunate enough to spend a lot of the Spring and Summer with my brother's 4 girls this year and what a blessing and dear sweet girls they are.
All of the kids got to show chickens at the community fair and enjoyed running around the fair together just like my brothers and cousins and I used to do every summer growing up. So many memories I have of that and am happy my kids can experience this too.
Fall 2011 was good. We had great weather, the garden kept growing, we got together with family to have some fun at a pumpkin patch, CT and KN joined a shotgun 4-H club where they get to go practise their shooting twice a month, we all got out to hunt this fall which is a goal my husband and I have had since we started having kids.
Was nice to have some warmer weather for much of the Fall and I didn't mind having to mow the lawn or water plants.
We got our first and only snowfall in November, just long enough for the kids to build a snow fort and then it was gone.
Thanksgiving time was spent at my husband's father's house with the family, my parents as well and the rest of the week was filled with more hunting, Christmas seemed to come too early but we got visits in with my grandparents, my mom's side of the family and up north at my sister in law's house with my husband's family. We were all healthy this year which makes the year seem almost perfect and know this new year will pass even more quickly. Keeping the kids learning God's word and working on being servants of all and remembering to have Joy in each day God gives us is my priority. May we stay focused on HIM for 2012 while enjoying each ones gifts and growth.

Great summary of so many exciting events all rolled into one year. Sure shows how much the kids have grown in such a short time. Time truly is fleeting, isn't it? Makes your dad & I so blessed to be part of the kids' lives ( and yours & T ) now.
