Let Your 'Yes' Be' Yes'

One of the big things my parents always stressed upon us growing up was being considerate of others. Especially by doing what you say you'll do, being where you say you'll be at the time you say you'll be there - don't leave people hanging - don't be a flake. If something comes up and you have to back out of something you'd said you'd do - let the other person know as soon as possible so they aren't left wondering or even sometimes worrying. When I was 11 yrs old we moved to a new town. One of the major differences we noticed was the change in how people felt about being held accountable or doing what they said they'd do. This was still an important trait in our family and it was frustrating to try to work, play or associate with others - even fellow believers - who didn't seem to care if they'd promised to be somewhere or do something at a certain time ~ if something else came up they'd change priorities and plans like the change of the wind and without notice and didn't seem to think it necessary to be considerate enough to let you know of the change in plans or that they weren't coming at all! By the time I was 20 , I seemed to be surrounded by people of this nature - especially people my age - going about on a whim with no real planning or sense of responsibility to others which I think shows a lack of respect for others. This is one of the reasons I really liked my husband - before he was my husband. It was not love at first sight for us - we didn't even really like each other for the first few months after we met but as I got to see his character I noticed how hard working he was, how respectful of others he was, he didn't blame others for his problems, how he'd show up on time every time and if he said he'd do something he always followed through. As Matthew 5:37 says ~ he let his 'yes' be 'yes' and his 'no' be 'no'. I'm a planner and I like to know what's going to happen before it happens so I really needed someone I could count on - to be there when they said they would, to not leave me guessing or wondering and to wait with me if I got hung up on something. People will always let you down, I know this and things happen to the best made plans but for Pete's sake! Just let me know the plans have changed and I'll be okay with it! I knew I could count on this guy - can't always count on a good mood to come with it but at least I can count on him!

Heaven

These are crystals grown by CT using a crystal growing kit. A rock, some 'secret' chemicals and some warm water ... wait a week or so and these fascinating colors and shapes sprout up. They feel like glass. Talking about crystals got us talking about crystal palaces which got us talking about Heaven. ( our flowering cherry tree in bloom today. )
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth , where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6:19 - 21
I have to say, with the way the economy is going, it's a little easier to wait and lay up our treasures in heaven.

Children

"Behold, children are a gift of the Lord; The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them." Psalm 127:3 - 5a
God has allowed 4 children to be born into our home for us to raise for Him. If I am too busy to teach them about the Lord and His ways, then what the heck am I doing raising them?
I must try my hardest to teach them morals and values that God would have them learn and show them they must obey and follow certain rules, not because I have instructed these things but because God has told us how to live. If He has said not to do certain things, we will try our hardest not to do them. If He has commanded us to do certain things, we will try our hardest to follow HIS orders. I only hope I can lead by example. I feel honored God has trusted me with this very important job!
"Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

"Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother. That it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. And, fathers do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Ephesians 6:1 - 4

"How blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, you will be happy and it will be well with you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine, within your house, your children like olive plants around your table. Behold, for thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord." Psalm:128:1 - 4
