We got our first hive of bees last Saturday and since we don't feel we deserve the title of 'bee keepers' yet we'll say for now we're 'bee getters'. My dad came by to help my husband put together his hive boxes.

Here's the little cage the bees came in.

After the hive was set up, my husband donned his new bee suit and emptied the caged bees into the hive.

For now they're doing well and eating a LOT! Holy cow those bees can eat a lot! My husband has been cooking up their breakfast of sugar and water in the evening and refilling the bee feeder in the morning before work. We really needed some honey bees in our area to help pollinate our plants and garden. The bee population has been pretty sparse around here the last few years. We'll see if we make it to Bee Keeper status!

wonderful adventure - and most people think of keeping bees for the honey - but for good pollination is even more important! Will look forward to seeing how your hive does - you have a great teacher in your Dad, Jim
Hope it goes well for you. We need bees to keep a balance in the growing process...less chemicals. I would love to buy some honey from you or your dad(my brother) when we come for a visit.(September 12-23)Michael, Karla, and Ellie will be around there the last two weeks of May.
How exciting! I hope you do well with them.
