Changes Around Here

This old garage has been transformed into this~
with working lights, garage door openers and all new big shelves high up along the interior walls to hold stuff we need to store out of the way.
The chickens, which quit laying sometime last summer, were moved into the huge quail pen. We had trouble keeping the quail from getting out so a new quail pen will be built and until the new chicken pen is built, the chickens can stay here. We acquired a few new chickens from both my mom and my husband's uncle, in hopes to start getting some eggs. Our wonderful big rooster 'Stormy' died last May. The hens finally started laying again once we brought in a new rooster - go figure - and we had way too many chickens to feed in this space so we cut our flock in half by giving away several to a friend.
I dunno about the rooster - he's walking a thin line. After getting into a big fight with him myself, I've realised how out of shape I am! Time to start using my pilates DVD again! Nothing puts your heart rate and muscles into high gear better than big rooster claws and beak jumping at your chest over and over again as you're trying to fill the waterers!
During our many projects going on around here, MN got out her bike, minus the training wheels and gave it go. No problem, she was riding like a pro after the first try.
In my title I have to say changes around "here" because our place has no name. You know, like Cedar Pond, Wobegon Cottage, Woodcreek Ranch, Apple Blossom Farm and most others we know who have a title for their home / property.
We had this sign made up in 1999 when we lived in a small lot with a creek running along at the bottom of the little hill in our yard. At the time, we bred, raised and sold Labrador Retrievers so having a name for your place and our line of dogs was a must. 5 years later we moved to where we are now and no longer breed dogs but this sign hangs our garage. The problem is , we have no creek so the name is not usable here. After the first couple of years living here and finding wheelbarrows full of rusty metal objects in every hole we dug, we thought about calling our place 'Rustbucket Hill' or 'Tetanus Knoll'. Hmmm, neither of those sounds very inviting, I mean, you want people to want to come over! Then we thought of 'Quail Quarters' or 'Covey Lane' but those won't work either since the quail are no longer around full time and prefer the neighbor's wooded lot. It's not necessary to have a name, we're not selling anything or running a professional business but I have noticed there have been a few things regarding the kid's homeschooling that could have used a proper name for our home. Ah well, when it hits us , it'll hit us, until then - it's just 'here'.

And "here" is a very good place to be! Congratulations MN, riding your bike like a pro without the trainers.Your place is always nice, and best of all are the hugs and kisses I get from our grandchildren, and licks from the dogs if we let them.

The changes are wonderful too...

I think that would have scarred me a little bit too when Mr. Rooster decided I was his enemy. Yikes!

Congrats to MN on riding her bike. She must be pretty proud of herself.

I expect a tennis racket could make a good rooster swat. Effective yet not lethal:)

I like it "here"! Your garage looks so different with the new doors! We had a couple roosters who kept attacking my little boy, so they went to the auction. They were both beautiful, but mean as everything!

Way to go MN!

LOVE the new garage! My favorite part of your estate is the landscaped area with the ornamental grass, stones, and flowers...dreamy.

Everything looks great! Whatever you call it, even if it is just "here," it is home and home is a wonderful place indeed. Have a nice weekend!
