How Many Trips to Walmart...?

Last year for our 10th anniversary we made the 6 hour drive to a little town called Winthrop in the Methow Valley to stay in a nice little cabin on Lake Pearrygin. The trip was wonderful, we caught more fish than we could eat, strolled around the little town which has been done up to look like an old western cowboy town and enjoyed each other's company in the cozy cabin. I was 6 weeks away from giving birth to Little J and sitting by the edge of a lake and fishing is a perfect pregnant person sport! You can see him here in my very round belly beside CT and MN eating their yummy ice cream cones we stopped to get in the old town. We decided we'd like to make the trip again this year only we'd pull the tent trailer we share with my parents and stay in that in one of the sites along the lake edge. By the time we were actually on the road I had to laugh and ask my husband - how many trips to Walmart does it take for a Guamanian to go camping??? Let's see... One to pick up the groceries and necessary items, one to pick up a drop hitch once you've realized our truck sits up too high to pull the trailer, one more to pick up a ball for the drop hitch after you've gone home and found you don't have the right sized wrench to remove the ball from your old hitch and a new bulb for the tail lights which don't seem to be working. Get it all fixed in the Walmart parking lot and realize you've forgotten to pick up an inner tube for your son's broken bike tire - so then throw a Norwegian into the mix ( that would be me ) and send her to pick up the fancy 'indestructible' self healing bike tire tube ( my choice ) which promptly pops and leaks green slime all over the campsite before ever making it onto the bike which then sends us off to a local hardware store for a cheapo inner tube halfway through the camping trip! Heading over the mountain pass we always drive past this cute skiing village. I've always wanted to stop here and look around and finally got the chance this weekend on our way to our camp site! Not really to tour around though, but because going up the pass our truck's transmission starting heating up pulling the trailer and all and we had to pull over to let it cool off.

Our kids remembered this car from our trip last year and wanted a picture of it. It's the Winthrop Marshall car. Yes, it's purple. Would you pull over if this was flashing it's lights at you?

We finally made it safely to our campsite by the lake and the wind and rain stopped long enough for us to have a campfire at least one evening.

This nice bridge was being constructed last year so we stopped this time to walk across and check out the small park and trail on the other side along with the 'vacation home' sites which you can purchase for, well, way out of our price range, but it's fun to look!

This is so much like our camping trips.....you must be related! At least you stopped to buy some of the needed things, we usually camped without and tried to remind ourselves we needed to remember all these little things NEXT YEAR! But as you might remember daughter, next year we forgot a whole new list of things!Still looks like a pretty good time, hope the frustration doesn't discourage you from another try at tent trailer camping!

All those forgotten things become very fond memories when the kids get older. We still get such laughs when we are all together and talk about old camping trips.
hope you all had a great time.

Looks like a beautiful area to camp despite the rain. Sorry you had to make so many trips to Wal-mart. Isn't that aggrevating?

I hate it when I have to keep going back to Walmart over and over! That looks like a really nice place y'all camp at.

We camped at Lake Pearrygin State Park the year Anna was turning two. It was the end of a nearly two week camping trip that began on White's Pass. We took each day as it came including a day in Yakima for a tire? It was the first summer I had my big crimson and grey conversion van, do you remember my van A. Joy? Well, we didn't have a fancy trailer yet and there really wasn't a lot of room in the van for gear so we rented a u-haul trailer. We looked like, uh... weirdos I am sure pulling into various state parks. Once we stayed in our first state park the two older girls would not allow us to return to FS campgrounds. State parks were built for country kids who have to suffer riding bikes on gravel, ahhh to camp on asphalt roads, a country girls dream.

Lake P. was a great place for sure, and the little town of Winthrop an old family favorite that goes back to the times my dad took me there oh some forty years ago!

I love the purple car! No, I would not pull over for it!

Hahaha! Thanks all for your comments - a camping trip just wouldn't be right without any Dadgummit! 's and DOH! 's. =) Each time we realized we'd forgotten another item we just had to laugh and I'd tell the kids stories about " Once when I was little we had a camping trip so bad that ... " Yes, Lanny, growing up we always camped in places with no toilets or showers and no paved roads or open areas so my kids think it's a real treat to go someplace where they can ride their bikes on a paved road! Next time we'll break out the roller blades! Oh - yes, I remember your van!
